One of PM Modi’s strengths is his ability to be innovative and creative. With this pursuit, he in turn inspires people to develop an out of the box thinking and to attain a go-getter approach towards things. This has had large pioneering effects on India and has created a symbiotic link between entrepreneurship and agriculture enabling an integrated sectoral growth. One such example is with regards to the production of Rubber in Gujarat.
- Onkar Kanwar, Chariman Apollo Tyres narrates an interesting anecdote on PM Modi’s ability to innovate and inspire, when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat.
- Kanwar mentions that the very initiative of cultivation of rubber in Gujarat was PM Modi’s idea as he desired self-sufficiency and wished to address the shortfall in production of rubber in India as Rubber was only being produced in Kerala at that time.
- Deliberations were held on the same between PM Modi and Onkar Kanwar, but a concrete strategy to implement the same began only when PM Modi inspired Onkar Kanwar at a business conclave. The basic idea was to provide seeds to the landless tribal people and to encourage them to grow rubber.
- Neeraj Kanwar, Managing Director, Apollo Tyres then narrated the anecdote further stating that fuelled with the inspiration imparted by PM Modi they travelled to Arizona in Phoenix, USA where the land was arid resembling the soil conditions in Gujarat. There a scientist was employed who had done pioneering research on ‘Guayule’, a woody shrub that was capable of producing rubber.
The American scientist was then brought to India and in the presence of PM Modi, Onkar and Neeraj Kanwar gave a presentation on how India could Gujarat could produce rubber. For about 1-2 hours PM Modi listened to the presentation with rapt attention and the idea of producing rubber in Gujarat was conceived.
It is ideas and initiatives like these which showcase PM Modi’s ability to innovate and inspire people, often leading to successful ventures.
