Respect for ‘Nari Shakti’ is integral to our culture. Central government's initiatives such as the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’, and Ujjwala, are a testimony to this. Time and again, women have broken all kinds of stereotypes to rise to the occasion. PM Modi has advocated for their equal participation in all facets of life, enhancing the growth and development prospects of India.
Nita Sevak from Rashtra Sevika Samiti narrates a heart-warming incident involving PM Modi in his younger days. They were traveling to Dhandhuka in Gujarat by bus when an extremely elderly woman boarded the bus. When she was approached by the conductor for a ticket, she referred to the destination where she wished to reach. Upon, hearing the destination the conductor remarked that she had got onto the wrong bus.
Upon hearing this the elderly woman was baffled and asked the conductor to halt the bus so that she could get down. The conductor straight away refused her request. Witnessing this, “PM Modi who was traveling in the same bus lamented the conductor for his unruly behaviour and asked him to heed to the elderly woman’s request threatening to file a complaint against the conductor,” says Nita Sevak.
Soon, the bus was stopped and the elderly woman was escorted off the bus by PM Modi. Nita Sevak said in the video, “After the bus started again, PM Modi approached the conductor and asked him if he had understood his mistake. On this, PM Modi told him that as part of our Indian traditions and culture, we must revere and respect our elders. We must always be empathetic towards the elderly and must always have the right intentions of aiding and helping them in need.”
This incident not only showcases, PM Modi’s courage to stand against injustice but also his values of empathy for the elderly, thereby having a people-centric approach to various problems.
